Vä, Skåne, Sweden
. . . THIS MAY TAKE A MOMENT OR TWO . . .
This is the former "front entryway" at Vä, showing both the exposed-stone Romanesque older portion of the Church, and the more recent "Danish-style" addition to the church (post Reformation). |
|
This is the bucolic walkway which is now a "side entrance" to Vä -- but which in fact was the original main entryway.
Note the 17th-18th century window at left, and the patchwork which clearly reveals the original Romanesque window at right!
In the "Danish-style" addition there are even hints at an earlier gothic-style predecessor window.
Detail of an original Romanesque window in the apse of the church.

Again, a more recent window at right, but stone patchwork filling in an earlier Romanesque window!

Clear indication of restoration and rebuilding upon earlier foundations.

Unmarked grave stone next to Vä. Clearly pre-reformation, this stone was probably used to mark either an important abbot of Vä or a significant supporter of the house.
Within two kilometers of Vä is Lyngsjö parish church (pronounced Linns-yerr). This church dates from the late 12th century and was clearly a parish of Vä.
Another view of Lyngsjö parish. This church has a baptistry dating from the 13th century that depicts the death of St. Thomas ā Becket!
