Monasticon Praemonstratense: (II, 330)

Elm Number:  117*

History:

Northeast of Brussels, southeast of Antwerp, northwest of Veerle.  The abbey was founded around the year 1130 as a daughter house of the Abbey of St. Michael in Antwerp. The abbey was suppressed and the canons expulsed in 1796 during the era of the "Brabantine Republic." In 1838 the canons were integrated into the community of Broechem, and on July 1, 1840 the Tongerlo community was restored.
