Our brother
Damian Wieber (WEE-burr), was born in
Green Bay
in 1909, and spent his final two years of high school at St. Norbert.
He was vested as a novice for the Order in 1928, and solemnly professed
in 1933.
Appointed to
the faculty of Southeast Catholic in 1935 to teach mathematics, he became
registrar in 1937. During the
subsequent summers into the ‘40’s, Damian taught summer school at West
Catholic Girls’ School, attended Villanova, and did private tutoring.
During 1946-47, he was temporary pastor at Lincoln.
Damian joined
the faculty of Central Catholic in 1947, and moved on to Premontre as registrar,
when that opened in 1955. From 1964
through 1968, he was chaplain to the Alexian Brothers in
Gresham
, with part-time teaching at the college, and from 1968 to 1977, pastor of
Lincoln
and part time at the college.
Damian had to
give up teaching in 1977, due to diabetes, when he underwent surgery to remove a
leg. Recuperation and therapy took
place at the abbey and a local nursing home, before he received an artificial
leg. Damian died on Tuesday, December 9th,
1980 at the age of 71.
