OUR LADY OF THE ASSUMPTION ABBEY
DAYLESFORD, PENNSYLVANIA, U.S.A.
Rev. B. Norbert Mollen, O. Praem.
b. Sunday, Sept. 18, 1887 – d. Monday, Dec. 10, 1979

Our brother Norbert Mollen was born in Menasha, Wisconsin in 1887, was vested in 1911, professed in 1913 and ordained in 1916.

He earned a Master’s degree from Catholic University in 1923.  After being appointed pastor in Valier, Montana in 1929, he began a professorship in Garrison, New York in 1933.  He also served on the faculty of St. Norbert College, De Pere, Wisconsin.  For ten years after a transfer in 1940, Norbert was a professor of English and Mathematics in the Priory of Averbode Abbey in Pirapora, Brazil.

Norbert became secretary/treasurer at Southeast Catholic in 1951, and moved with the rest of the faculty to Bishop Neumann, when that opened in 1955.  In 1963 he became a member of Daylesford Abbey.

In South Philadelphia, Norbert became known as “The Funeral Priest,” going out almost daily to substitute for some pastor in celebrating the rites of burial of the dead.

Norbert died on Monday, December 10, 1979 in Philadelphia, at the age of 92

If you have a photograph of this Norbertine, we would love to hear from you.
