Our
brother George Feldman was born in Wilmington,
Delaware
in 1918. Having graduated with the
first class from Archmere, he joined the Order after his freshman year at the
college in 1937, and was solemnly professed in 1942.
He was assigned to the faculty of Southeast Catholic in 1941, and
transferred to St. Norbert High in 1942, where he was advisor to “Hi Times”,
the school paper until 1948, when he returned to Southeast, and moderated “The
Rocket.”
1949
found “Jack” at Archmere teaching English, religion and speech and
moderating “The Green Arch.” Having
spent the previous summers at Villanova, he earned an M.A. from there in
Education in 1954.
Jackson
was appointed principal of
St.
Norbert High in 1958. The school moved and became Abbot
Pennings
High School
in 1959, and Jack remained there until 1968.
While principal, Jack spent most of his mornings walking from the school
to the priory, smoking several cigarettes, waiting for the mail to arrive,
sorting it, and then carrying the mail back to his office before returning to
the priory for lunch and a nap.
Jackson
did parochial ministry from Sunshine Priory in Clearwater, Florida from 1968
through 1976, when he became executive director of the Abbot Pennings Foundation
and superior of the college priory. He
died on
Monday, August 5, 2002 at the age of 84.
